Hello,
Some activities and progress is the game is several crippled while offline such as workers, energy recovery. Several people decide to counter this fact by letting their PC running 24/7 just to run the game to progress and get more gains while away.
I believe this could be helped by applying some changes:
Energy recover while offline
While players are offline their energy recover would have a boost on their main character. This boost could be slightly worse than being currently online, but it should be better than the current state of the game. The main character is a system that is already present since we can consult our main character in the web page.
Workers offline while player is offline
Allow the workers to continue to work even when the player is offline. Remove the limit where the player has to be online for the worker to start working.
Lifeskilling offline
Allow players to let them work on some activities while offline. This activities could have a timeout, like 8-14 hours until the character stops to avoid a permanent activity while offline.
Lifeskills have their inherent limiting factor. These limits are either the durability of a fishing rod, the amount of available slots, the amount of available inventory weight, etc. With this in mind, I do think that being able to setup one lifeskill to be done while offline would be welcomed.
In my opinion the energy recovery for the main character could be the same as being online (1 energy point every 3 minutes) until the chosen lifeskill is done.
Workers could be working until their energy is depleted.
I think this change is very important, because it helps players not feeling obligated to leave their computer turned on for progression purposes. This is even more important when we take the environmental impact into consideration.
Allowing Training dummies, afk fishing, and afk horse training, while offline would actually help server load and be cheaper for PA because it wouldn't be as taxing for the servers and reduce the energy cost of servers.
I suggested this a while ago and many people seemed to be against this. I guess they like running their gaming PCs 24/7.
From the developers' standpoint I understand that they want to give an impression of a lot of players online in the game. However, in this environment-conscious age this is very irresponsible behaviour, both from the players who choose to keep their PCs running all the time, and the devs for encouraging such behaviour by designing the game around AFK activities that require you to be logged into the game.
Hopefully the devs will one day do their part and take responsibility of our environment by removing the logged-in requirement for AFK activities in the game.
