I preordered BDO in 2015 and since it's release the servers have been so far from the East coast, node wars or playing PvP ''competitively'' is nearly impossible because of all the rubberbanding, 1v1, small scale and big scale.
-I often get up to 180ms(ping) or 90ms(ping) with Exitlag while playing Black Desert Online.
-I have been playing a lot of fighting games where 1 frame makes the difference so I can assure everyone that my wired connection is stable and strong, I'm situated near NYC.
-I run the game at 144 fps without issue.
-Just walking around, jumping off a cliff or going to a world boss will sometimes teleport me around randomly(rubberbanding).
I spent countless hours, learning about all the classes and mechanics, learning Crit's encyclopedia just to be teleported around constantly by the servers trying to synchronize players.
There are videos of rubberbanding everywhere online, Kakao didn't want to do something about it, will Pearl Abyss address this?
Rubberbanding definition: in online video gaming, an undesirable effect of latency in which a moving object appears to leap from one place to another without passing through the intervening space; also called "warping" or "teleporting"
I'm fully aware that West coast players wouldn't want the server location changed but we really need to have that Central, please Pearl Abyss.
I have 100 mbs down/up Fiber Internet. Im East Coast NA. Most online games I play that have servers in NA I avaerage 50 MS to. First day of logging into BDO NA under PA direct managment just to find out that the server location did not change. Correct me if im wrong but I believe they are still in San Jose Cali. My average ping to BDO NA was and now still is 100 ms. In such a fast paced game where Low Ping and HIgh FPS is rewarded this is just a huge turn off and a major push away. If there was ever a time to change to a more central location...it was now. NA is a large continent with many players spread far and wide. Its an insult not to have a central location for game servers.
90ms ping with vpn is perfectly playable. The author of crits book of combat played on that ping and dominated many in competitive pvp. 180 is getting up there but if you can get 90ms on vpn then 180ms is just due to poor internet infrastructure and connections. Theres no way to equalise ping for every player around the world because electrical signals can only travel so fast and everyone lives at different distances from the server. If you scatter different servers around the country the population in each will be small and it wont be an mmo anymore. There are ways to prevent latency related desync in pvp and it is in crits book. Don't despair/blame on latency - if you put in effort you will improve in pvp its just that this game has a high difficulty ceiling for pvp so dont expect to be a master in a short amount of time.
Very low ping/fps does not make up for skill difference. Only those who are top in pvp fighting top level players get an advantage from low ping and fps but the major reason they are good is because they are experienced in pvp, not due to their ping/fps. If they played at higher ping or lower fps they would still be amongst the top pvp people. Similarly, an average player with 20ms ping and high fps will still not be able to overcome a better player with higher ping.
Finally, the number of ppl who have very low ping is few, and top players with low ping are even fewer. The guild skirmish collected a good chunk of very skilled players and they never got close to 99 ppl. Duelist discard when they were making masters of each class lists never had more than 5 or so per class. Low ping and high fps generates a minute difference in thi game when you consider the many things that overcome/dilute it
