The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in the United Kingdom has announced the Children’s Code (or Age Appropriate Design Code). In accordance with this data protection code, we will be changing our game and paid services to require the consent of parental/legal guardians for Adventurers under the age of 18 starting Wednesday, September 1, 2021.

However, minors will not be able to play the game if their parental/legal guardian does not set up play time limits (parental controls) even if the minor has already received their parental/legal guardian’s consent when signing up. Furthermore, the parental/legal guardian must set up a payment method to use paid services.

■ Game Time Limits

Adventurers between the ages of 16 and 18 must first have their parental/legal guardian set up game time limits (parental controls) in order to play the game. Even if you’ve received your parental/legal guardian’s consent when signing up, you will receive a restriction message when you start the game from the launcher if your parental/legal guardian has not set up play time limits.

If you encounter this message, please visit Pearl Abyss’s “Parental Controls” website and have your parental/legal guardian set up play time limits after logging in.

How to Set Play Time Limits

1. Go to Pearl Abyss’s Parental Controls website.

* Please note that the Pearl Abyss Parental Controls website will be available after September 1 (Wed) 10:00 (UTC).

2. Log in with the email address provided at sign-up.

- A code will be sent to this email address. Please enter this code to log in.

3. Go to the Parental Controls settings.

4. Set up the “Play Time Limits.”

- Please note that the “Restrict access to the game” is set by default when you first give your consent.

5. After you set up the “Play Time Limits,” log in on the Black Desert launcher with your child’s account to play the game normally.

■ Parental/Legal Guardian’s Payment Method

In order to use paid services, Adventurers between the ages of 16 and 18 must first have their parental/legal guardian set up a payment method.

If you try to use our paid services without setting up a payment method, you’ll encounter a restricted content message. To avoid this message, please visit Pearl Abyss’s Parental Controls website and set up a payment method with a parental/legal guardian’s account.

How to Set Up Payment Method

1. Go to Pearl Abyss’s Parental Controls website.

2. Log in with the email address provided at sign-up.

- A code will be sent to this email address. Please enter this code to log in.

3. Go to the Parental Controls settings.

4. Set up a payment method under “Manage Game Purchases.”

- Once you set up a purchase limit for the first time, you can freely change the limit twice a month.

- You can select a validity period of 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, or 5 years for your purchase consent.

5. Once you’ve finished setting up a payment method, you will be able to use paid services normally.
