Lots of Time!
Greetings, Adventurers!
Today we feature a legendary adventurer from North America!
GM Polly here! in August, we revealed that we would be starting a new series, one where we explore various aspects of the game and interview adventurers who have achieved spectacular results in these areas. In September, we began kicked this series off with an interview of an EU Adventurer named MrBaxs, who is credited with collecting the most treasure items to date. Today we bring you the very next installment of our series! Today's interviewee is someone who excels in a very particular field: PLAYTIME!
Let's find out more from this heralded adventurer, Huma Dragonbane, the adventurer with the most hours on one character (~60,000 Hours)!
GM Polly
Hello, would you please introduce yourself to our readers?
Huma Dragonbane
Hi, I'm Huma Dragonbane. Some of you might have seen me around. I've been playing since launch day.
GM Polly
Pleased to meet you! Huma Dragonbane is one of the players with the most playtime on any one class!
GM Polly
What class do you play?
Huma Dragonbane
Wizard. Specifically, Succession Wizard.
GM Polly
I see, what is your reason for choosing Succession over Awakening?
Huma Dragonbane
I like the feel of the playstyle of Succession. Even more so recently with some of the changes to spells that were made a few weeks ago.
Huma Dragonbane
I changed some spells around and have really enjoyed grinding again with the new abilities that have become viable now.
GM Polly
Okay, that's interesting to hear! So, we know why you've chosen Succession over Awakening, but why did you decide to play Wizard all these years?
Huma Dragonbane
It really goes back to when I was a teen reading books. Wizards always fascinated me. My 1st MMO was Ultima Online, and I loved the magic in the game. It's inspired me for years to always play Wizards in MMO's ever since.
GM Polly
Oh! So, your loyalty to Wizard goes back to before playing BDO even! 😮
Huma Dragonbane
Yes, there use to be a game called Dungeon Master, released in 1987. You had to use combinations of symbols to create spells in that game. I was hooked from that point on.
Huma Dragonbane
In every subsequent game I've played since then, I have always gravitated toward the Wizard class.
Huma Dragonbane
Probably explains why I've played a Wizard in Black Desert all these years since launch and still love it.
GM Polly
That's really nice, I like your passion for playing Wizard. I never played a monk-like class in any mmo before BDO and, for some reason, just decided to try it out and then never stopped playing Mystic. Before that I was always tied to a kind of spear/glaive class.
GM Polly
Is there currently, or have you ever, found a lot of enjoyment playing a class other than Wizard? Even for a small period of time?
Huma Dragonbane
I tried a few when seasons were introduced to the game. Nova was very enjoyable. I like hashashin and sage. I also tried Corsair which had a very unique feeling.
Huma Dragonbane
The creation of season servers was quite brilliant in that it encouraged players to try other classes the game has to offer, even if it is only for a brief time in my case.
GM Polly
I definitely agree with the statement about seasons, I found other classes I liked and disliked thanks to that system as well.
Huma Dragonbane
Yeah, it's a great system to experiemnt with new class dynamics and revisit old grinding areas.
GM Polly
I assume, then, that you've never rerolled in the past? Are you thinking of rerolling presently? or will you forever remain loyal? 😤
Huma Dragonbane
I'm loyal to my Wizard! I would never reroll because I enjoy the class too much to do so.
GM Polly
I understand, I appreciate your diehard loyalty. What was your opinion on the visual change to Wizard?
Huma Dragonbane
I originally created my Wizard to be very small for PvP. At first, I wasn't happy with the change. It made my character larger, but I enjoyed remaking everything and have ended up pleased that I got that opportunity. It was like rerolling without the reroll lol.
GM Polly
That is an interesting perspective, I guess it was almost like the character being reborn for you.
Huma Dragonbane
I'd say so. At least, it felt like it.
GM Polly
So, disregarding your overall preference for Wizard-like classes, is there any specific thing about how Black Desert has done with the Wizard archetype that really stands out to you as something you really like?
Huma Dragonbane
Well, the class has really changed at times over the years. One of the main draws of the class was his PvP utility. Healing especially. Lots of damage, like a glass canon. Things have changed and evolved over the years, but those things still remain true. A great group class.
Huma Dragonbane
Some of my favorite early memories I have are from getting charged by my guild members to 200% during node wars and dropping a meteor on the opposing guild, wiping them out. I'll always remember those early node war days.
GM Polly
Yea, the group utility is definitely one of the hallmarks of the class. I am glad you enjoyed killing lots of other adventurers with Wizard 😈.
Huma Dragonbane
Absolutely!
GM Polly
Do you have a preference for PVE or PVP?
Huma Dragonbane
That's a timely question. I've been all about the PvP in node wars and Arsha for so many years. When city of the dead was released, I finally had to admit I can't focus on PvP on Arsha anymore and still be able to grind the higher end zones. PvP 1v1 is challenging enough as it is on a Wizard, but I needed to rebuild my Wizard with Blackstar weapons and PvE Skill addons if I wanted to try the harder areas of the game. So, a few weeks ago, I sold everything, and I have been working on PEN Blackstar weapons now and revamping my accessories. Wielding a Nouver while you're engaged in PvP is great, but not so much when you need to kill high end mobs at the same time.
GM Polly
That's reasonable. Well, those are all the questions I have, is there anything else you would like to say to your fellow Adventurers?
Huma Dragonbane
Enjoy playing the best MMO on the market! Appreciate it because I've played so many since their inception over the last 30 years. There are virtually none that have lasted this long and are going so strong all these years later. It is a testament to Pearl Abyss and their committment to constantly update and improve our experience. Happy adventuring!
A big thank you to everyone who enjoyed reading the interview,
and special thanks to Huma Dragonbane, who was willing to talk with us!
To all those who are loyal to their one favorite class, or even those who like to jump around between classes, I hope you continue to have fun playing the game!
Take care, everyone, see you in the next interview!
